Platres is a beautiful mountain village in the province of Limassol and thanks to its natural beauty and picturesqueness, it has become a beautiful choice for getaways even in the summer months. Hotel units change management and invest capital in their upgrade, closed businesses are renovated and reopened and, at the same time, private initiatives for the purchase and development of real estate begin to take place. As in other cases, initiatives of this nature seem to play an important role in upgrading and highlighting an area, seeing as, between aesthetic and economic development, further incentives are created for investment in a wider circle of entrepreneurs.
But beyond the private initiatives, the tourist and development future of Platres seems even more auspicious, as, along with them, comes a series of community decisions and actions which contribute to the development of the region. The cultural center begins to act as an ark of the cultural history of the area, through its collection and exhibition. At the same time, it is modernized and acquires greater extroversion through the creation of a new website and the creation of an application for mobile phones, brochures, maps, and signage systems.
In the meantime, four new cultural routes are being created and the sports center is simultaneously enhancing the visits to the area. The provision of European funds contributed to the promotion and beautification of the region, while the financial package that was received was invested in the repair works for the paths of Myllomeris and Milia. In addition to the landscaping of the area, and the important works for the community but also for the population– locals or tourists– we acknowledge the work put into the fire nests and the viewing system. Clearly, the community of Platres shows its practical willingness to upgrade the area and transform it, into a pole of attraction for tourists and investors.

In conclusion, it seems that, in just a few years, the combination of private and community initiatives will radically change the image of Platres, making the villages, on the one hand, an upgraded tourist destination and, on the other hand, an important pole of investment and business. Alternative and rural tourism has been well established for many years, giving way to the creation of new investment plans or reviving old ones. Undoubtedly, the island of Cyprus meets all the conditions and is in a very advantageous position in order to benefit from them.
